SOFTBALL ANYONE? ::: 04/12/2008 |

The Monroe Fire Department will be hosting a class "C" softball tournament June 28 and 29 at the Ravine in Monroe. This tournament will be held in a fundraising efforts for The MERIT Center. BUILDINGS ON THE MOVE ::: 04/05/2008 |
|
During the past weekend, members of the Monroe Fire Department started to move the buildings at the Northland Building Site on Hwy 69 and Aebly RD. The buildings that are owned by Menards were donated to the department to be used at The MERIT Center. Department members disassembled the building attempting to salvage all usable pieces. The building pieces were placed into storage. The buildings are anticipated to be built back up sometime next spring. Thank you Menards for your generous donation.

WINTER SEMINAR A SUCCESS ::: 02/18/2008 |

On February 16, 2008, the Monroe Fire Department held a Winter Safety Seminar featuring Chief Billy Goldfeder and his presentation of "Firefighters Scared Straight." Nearly 400 Firefighters from five stated attended this event. The Winter Safety Seminar was one of the first large scale fundraising events that the department is having in raising funds for the MERIT Center. The MERIT Center is a six acre regional training center that is being build from grants, donations, and fundraising. If you are interested in the MERIT Center or would like to contribute to the MERIT Center, feel free to contact either Fire Chief Daryl Rausch or Deputy Chief Lane Heins for further information. WINTER SAFETY SEMINAR COMING SOON ::: 01/21/2008 |

The Monroe Fire Department is proud to announced the Winter Safety Seminar that will take place on February 16, 2008 at the Performing Arts Center at the Monroe High School. Chief Billy Goldfeder will be presenting "Firefighters Scared Straight." This seminar is one of the first activities in the foundraising for the Merit Center in Monroe. SNOW REMOVAL AROUND HYDRANTS ::: 01/04/2008 |

With all the recent snow falls, the Monroe Fire Department is asking for your assistance. The fire hydrants around the city have been covered up with all the snow from the roads and side walks. We are asking citizens to shovel the hydrants out. By shoveling the hydrants out, it make the deparetments job easier when responding to an emergency. We ask that the hydrants is shoveled out with at least a five foot circle around it. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the department office at 329-2575. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

GREAT NIGHT FOR TRICK-OR-TREATING ::: 11/01/2007 |

What a great night for Trick-or-Treating. The Fire Department along with teh Monroe Police Department were set up in three location in town. Between the three locations, there were over 800 people that visited us. What a great responce. Hopefully everyone had a great Halloween and got plenty of candy.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST ::: 10/01/2007 |

On Sunday October 7, 2007, the Monroe Volunteer Firefighter Inc will be having their annual pancake breakfast at the fire station to kick off Fire Prevention Week. Pancake will be served 7:00 am to 1:00pm. Carry outs will be available. Come on down to the fire house for some pancakes and take a ride around town in a fire truck.

This year, the National Fire Prevention Week has been set for October 7 to October 13. the Monroe Fire Prevention Bureau will be conducting prevention activities during this week and through out the entire month. NEW RECRUITS START AUGUST 1 ::: 08/01/2007 |

The Monroe Fire Deparmtent is proud to announce the addition of seven new paid on call firefighters. They are Sam Price, Tim Williams, Jim Kundert, Jared Van Dellon, Adrian Strothman, Andy Fuchs and Scott Stewart. These new firefighters will begin their training immediately. The firefighters will be on a probationary status for the next 12 months.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR DAVID A. RUFER ::: 06/14/2007 |

The Monroe Fire Department is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our brother firefighter David Allan Rufer in the line of duty. David passed away at the Monroe Clinic Hospital on Tuesday evening June 12, 2007 after suffering an apparent heart attack during a fire department training evolution. David is survived by three children, his father, former Assistant Chief Ken Rufer and his mother Dorthea, along with a brother and sister. Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM on Friday June 15 at the Shriner, Hager, Gohlke Funeral Home at 1455 Mansion Drive in Monroe. Funeral services will be held at St John’s United Church of Christ at 1724 14th Street on Saturday June 16 beginning at. 1 PM. There will be a processional from the church to the cemetery following the service, area fire departments are invited to participate. Department personnel and apparatus staging will be at the Monroe Fire Station at 1110 Eighteenth Avenue beginning at 11:00 AM

MONROE FIREFIGHTER LINE OF DUTY DEATH ::: 06/13/2007 |

The Monroe Fire Department suffered a line of duty death on Tuesday evening June 12, 2007. A firefighter, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family suffered an apparent heart attack during training at the north industrial park adn subsequently died at Mornoe Clinic Hospital. The hiring process for Paid-On-Call firefighters will start in early to mid April. Applications will be handed out at mandatory orientation sessions which will be announced soon. We pay for all training through FF2 and pay for all incident response at a range of $12.52-$16.00 per hour based on certification level We run approximately 200 calls per year providing fire response and extrication services to an 83 square mile area. On August 1, the Monroe Fire Department along with Monroe Police Department and Green COunty EMS will be hosting a National Night Out at the Fire Station. Each department will have vehicle available for people to look at and go through. There will be booths set up with safety tips and hand out materials. On Friday August 18, the Monroe Volunteer Firefighters Inc will be having a spaghetti dinner at the Monroe Fire Station. The dinner will run from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Tickets will be be available at the door or from MVFF members. Carry outs wil also be available. Cost of the dinner is adults $6.00 children 4 - 12 $3.00 and children under 3 free.

GREEN COUNTY MABAS DIVISION 105 ::: 07/05/2006 |

Over the past few years, members from the Green County Fire Chiefs’ Association have been meeting and planning to be a part of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. On June 26th, a meeting was held at the Monroe Fire Station to elect officers and plan the schedule for the upcoming months. Al Rufer (Monroe) was elected Division President and Bill Ruchti (Brodhead) was elected Vice President. Green County Division 105 should be operational in early 2007.

NEW FIREFIGHTERS JOIN THE DEPARTMENT ::: 07/01/2006 |

Recently, the Monroe Fire Department hired five new firefighters to fill vacant positions with the department. The new firefighters are Chad Hartwig, Tammy Hartwig, Jacob Soden, Travis Schelton, and Robert Wand. The new recruits have begun the departments recruit training and in the fall will take the State Firefighter I entry level class. The recruits will be probation for 1 years. Help us welcome them into the department and we look forward to the many assets that each bring with them.

CHANGE IN STATION ::: 06/02/2006 |
|
Starting June 5, citizens in the City of Monroe will see a different response from the Fire Department. The department will be responding to calls from the city garage across from Swiss Colony. This is due to the floor at the station downtown being resurfaced. The trucks will be stored at the city garage from June 5 until June 19. After June 19, the trucks will be moved back to the downtown station for normal operation. The Fire Department would like to thank Steve Strieff and the rest of the employees at city garage for allowing the department to park the vehicles there during this project.

NEW FIREFIGHTERS JOIN THE DEPARTMENT ::: 05/26/2006 |

Starting June 5, 2006, there will be a few new faces in the Monroe Fire Department. Over the past 3 months, the department has been going through the hiring process. The process included an initial orientation, written test, oral interview, physical agility testing and a final approval from the Police and Fire Commission. Currently the department has 49 active members. More information will be released after the final approval from the Police and Fire Commission.
