MABAS 105 Training - 09.22.2007
On Saturday September 22, 2007 MABAS Division 105 and Blackhawk Technical College sponsored a live fire training on Decatur-Sylvester Road. A large barn was used as the final exercise in a high volume water movement training conducted over a two week-end period beginning on September 8th. The class was coordinated by Monroe Deputy Fire Chief Lane Heins and MABAS Division
105 President Alan Rufer. Classroom and hands-on classes were conducted by Dean Kaster and Dave Plath from Browntown FD and Daryl Rausch, Lane Heins, and Al Rufer from Monroe FD. Division 105 departments participated in classroom and hands-on activities to learn how to more efficiently move water for rural fires using tankers and portable pumps. Participating departments moved over 45,000 gallons of water in an hour during the final exercise.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) draws limited equipment and firefighters from each local department to provide aid to neighboring departments. As the incident grows in size and more resources are needed, they are requested from an ever widening circle to respond to the scene or to back-fill other departments that have already been called. This ensures that no departments resources are all committed to a single incident thereby ensuring resources are available to handle other emergencies that may occur.
Since MABAS was adopted by Green County in July of 2007 it has been implemented eight times and has proven to increase the effectiveness of the mutual aid system in Green and surrounding counties while ensuring resources are always available. More...
