Apartment Fire Caused by Cigarrette - 02.25.2009
The Monroe Fire Department was alerted to the 300 block of 4th Street at 1:45pm on February 25, 2009 for the report of an apartment fire.  It was reported by Monroe Police Department that there were elderly people still inside the apartment complex.  Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from one apartment on the first level.  Upon entering the apartment, crews found that the fire was extinguisher prior to arrival.  All tenants were removed from the building.  Crews ventilated the apartment.  Residence were able to return to their apartments within an hour of the incident.
No-one was injured in the incident.  The fire was caused by mishandling of smoking materials. Crews remained on scene for 1.5 hours
