Gas Leak Causes Evacuation - 07.22.2008
On July 22, 2008 at 3:15 pm, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted for a gas leak in the 600 block of 1600 Ave.  It was determined that during the excavation of the road, the backhoe had struck a 4" natural gas line.  The gas line was a supply line with 150 psi.  Citizens south of the incident were evacuated from their homes for an hour.  After the gas company secured the leak, they secured each residents before citizens were able to return.  Crews remain on scene for two hours, while the gas company remained on scene late into the night.
