Fatal Fire on Easter Morning - 03.23.2008
On March 23, 2008 at 1235 am, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted for a residential fire in the 2400 of 16th Ave. While responding, a Monroe Police Officer reported that there was a subject still inside the residence. Crews found heavy fire to the rear of the residence. The fire was quickly knocked down and crews entered the residence going to the basement where the subject was reported to be trapped. With the assistance from the Thermal Imaging Camera, crews were able to find the subject within 2-3 minutes. At the time the subject was found, they were still breathing but unconscious. The subjected was removed from the basement transfered to the crew from Green County EMS. They were then transported to Monroe Clinic ER where he later died. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Monroe Police and Fire Departments as well as the State Fire Marshals Office. Crews remained on scene for roughly 8 hours.
