Motor Causes Paint Booth Fire - 12.12.2007
On December 12, 2007, the Monroe Fire Department responded to the 2900 block of 18th Ave for the report of a paint booth on fire.  Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe and out an overhead door.  Workers at the business had used multiple extinguishers in attempt to extinguish the fire.  The fire was knocked down prior to crews arriving and was isolated to the exhaust pipe. Crews had to cut access holes into the piping to gain access.  The fire had spread into the roof insulation, but was extinguished quickly.
At the time of the fire, there were no vehicles in the booth and no painting had taken place for an extended period of time.  The cause of the fire is to believed to have started in the exhaust fan inside the vent pipe.  The damage was contained to the paint booth area and the business remained open during the incident.  Crews remained on scene for roughly 3 hours.
