Kitchen Fire Damages Apartment - 06.24.2007
On Sunday June 24, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted for smoke in an apartment in the 1700 30th ave.  Upon arrival, crews found the smoke coming from the stove in the apartment. The fire was knocked down with a fire extinguisher prior to the departments arrival.  Crews extinguished the fire and ventilated the apartment. The occupant was cooking on the stove when the fire started and the fire had extended into the hood system.  Damage was contained to the stove area, but there was smoke damage to the entire apartment.  Other residents were evacuated for roughly an hour, but were able to go back into their residence.  The occupant of the apartment was not able to return and was provide housing elsewhere.   
     The Juda Fire Department responded to the scene for man power since the Monroe Fire Department was conducting a training burn at the same time.  Crews were on scene for roughly 1.5 hours.
