On Saturday  March 24, 2007, the Monroe Fire Department along with Green County EMS were alerted for a motor vehicle crash in the  2400 8th St.  Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle that had struck a power pole which had snapped about half way up the pole and a subject laying in the middle of the road. Fire and EMS personnel quickly assessed and packaged the patient to remove them from the hazard area.  Crews were concerned that the pole and wires may fall to the ground.
The scene was secured by the Monroe Police Department and Monroe Street Department.  Alliant Energy was notified and responded to the scene.  The power was disconnected by Alliant and later in the evening, the pole was replaced.
It was determined that the driver of the vehicle had a medical emergency that caused the accident.  It was also determined that after the accident, neighbors had pulled the subject out of the vehicle in attempt to help.  Crews remained on scene for 1.5 hours.  The area was shut down to traffic for roughly 4 hours while Alliant replace the pole and reconnected the electricity.
