Basement Fire Cause Extensive Damage - 03.12.2007
On Monday March 12, 2007, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted for a possible structure fire in the 1500 of 31st Ave. Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming out from underneath the eve. Interior crews found the fire in the basement in a mechanical room.
The fire was detected by the residence upon returning home, but could not tell exactly where the fire was located.  Prior to the departments arrival, the homeowner had rescued tow dogs that were inside the structure.
Extensive damage located in the basement.  There was extensive water damage caused by a water line breaking above the fire.  No one was injured in the incident.  The two dogs were taken to the local vets office for evaluation.  Crews remained on scene for roughly two hours.  At this point, the cause of the fire still under investigation by the Monroe Fire Department and the Monroe Police Department.
