Wood Furnace Vent Pipe Ignites Insulation - 11.12.2006
     On Sunday November 12 at 8: 26pm, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted for an attic fire in the 1100 block of 14th Ave.When Crews arrived, there was smoke coming from the eves on the west side of the house.  Crews entered the building from a patio door on the south side and found smoke coming from an attic door in the bedroom.  Once crews made entry to the attic, they found insulation and rafters on fire near a woodstove vent pipe.  The fire was extinguished quickly, but there was smoke, heat and fire damage to the rafters and insulation.
    During the investigation, it was determined that insulation around the wood stove vent pipeoverheated and started on fire.  All of the insulation in the attic was removed.  Walls around the vent pipe were opened up to check for extension.Crews were on scene for approx. 2 hours.
