Lightning Causes House Fire - 04.25.2008
   On April 25, 2008, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted for a residential structure fire in the 500 block of Haddinger Road.  Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke condition on the first floor and in the basement.  The fire was located in the basement and extended up into the first floor.
   Crews battled the fire and got it under control in about 45 minutes with the assistance of mutual aid companies.  A MABAS box alarm was pulled to the second level.  Departments from Wisconsin and Illinois.
   During the investigation, neighbors reported a lightning strike to or near the residence about 15 minutes prior to our arrival.  The residence received severe damage.  Both occupants in the house were out of the residence upon Fire Department arriving.  Both were transported to Monroe Clinic by Green County EMS for smoke inhalation.  Three firefighters were treated for minor injuries and returned to duty.

Fatal Fire on Easter Morning - 03.23.2008
On March 23, 2008 at 1235 am, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted for a residential fire in the 2400 of 16th Ave.  While responding, Monroe Police Officer reported that there was a subject still inside the residence trapped.  Crews found heavy fire to the rear of the residence.  The fire was quickly knocked down and crews entered the residence going to the basement where the subject was reported to be.  With the assistance from the Thermal Imaging Camera, crews were able to find the subject within 2-3 minutes. At the time the subject was found, they were still breathing but unconscious.  The subjected was removed from the basement transfered to the crew from Green County EMS.  They were then transported to Monroe Clinic ER were they died.  The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Monroe Police and Fire Departments as well as the State Fire Marshals Office.  Crews remained on scene for roughly 8 hours. On March 15, 2007, the Monroe fire Department was alerted to Farm and Fleet for the report of a general water flow alarm.  Upon arrival, crews found a broken sprinkler pipe in the storage area.  Management stated that a forklift was moving product around and struck the pipe.  The water supply was shut down 7-10 minutes after being broken.  Water was contained to the back storage and animal feed area.  Crews assisted with the clean up adn reamined on scene for 1.5 hours.  The store remained open during the event.  The sprinkler system was repaired and operational later in the day More...

Shed Destroyed Prior to Arrival - 03.14.2008
On March 4, 2008, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted to the 5200 of CTY FF for the report of a garage fire.  While leaving the city limits, flames and heavy smoke were observed. A MABAS box was pulled to the second level bringing resources from Monticello, Juda, Brodhead, Albany, New Glarus, Orangeville and Cedarville. Upon arrival, crews found a garage that had three separate section. One was a garage, then a repair shop and then a lean to with farm equipment inside.  There was heavy fire in the garage and machine shed area and spreading to the lean to. The fire was under control in about an hour.  Overhaul was difficult do to the condition of the build.  Some of the machinery was removed from the lean to.  The cause of the fire was undetermined, but under investigation by the fire department and insurance company.  Crews remained on scene for 5 hours.  No injuries were reported and all contents inside the building were considered a total loss.
